Jason and Christy Wryghte opened the new Riverside Music of Trenton, Ontario September 1st, 2013 with the intent of growing and strengthening the music school, developing the location as a community centre and providing quality retail service to the families of Quinte West and surrounding area. Riverside Music was first established in May 1994 by local musician Pat Clark. Peter and Maggie George owned the store for about nine years and have retired, closing their business August 31, 2013.
Riverside Music is known as “Quinte’s Community Centre for Music and the Arts”. There are many practical ways in which this idea plays out.
We offer lessons in music, fine arts and theatre arts. Many people take lessons in more than one discipline. Many families have more than one member studying something here at Riverside. It’s a community centre!
Concerts and other events are held at Riverside. Community groups hold their rehearsals at Riverside, presently including the Quinte Fingerstyle Guitar Club, a folk music drop in group, a community hymn sing, a men’s gospel music chorus (Raw Gospel), and the Quinte Ukulele Club. It’s for the community!
March Break and Summer Day Camps are offered, where music themes dominant the days, and fun is the name of the game. Our excellent staff is carefully chosen and trained to help make these holiday times special for all the kids that come.
Riverside has an active scholarship program which provides discounted lessons and instruments for children in need. Occasionally, donations of money or instruments are received from members of the community who want to support this effort.
Consignment sales of professional artwork and musical instruments are also sold, with the intent of providing a service available to most any family in the region. The product lines carried are focused on families: intermediate and beginner music students. Of course, when a customer wants a high priced item it can be ordered in, but the focus is on service and affordability for everyone.
Local musicians are able to sell their CD’s at our store and we keep zero percent. This is our very small way of helping to support them.
Co-op students are regularly retained, as Riverside seeks to partner with the high schools and help provide training for these important young people.
We at Riverside Music are grateful to our many supporters, students, families, and customers who help us provide such a service to the community. It is a pleasure and a blessing to be involved in this way.
Jason and Christy Wryghte are both professional teachers. Jason has also been involved in music all his life. He has taught privately and in public studios for many years, taught instrumental music at the intermediate level for about 10 years, directed school musicals, and performed with community bands, in community theatre, and as part of the Belleville based gospel music group, The Crusaders. Christy loves to play her flute, and has taught mainly science and mathematics at the high school level. They live here in Trenton with their three awesome kids.
